We are still in the midst of Winter, but we can feel Spring on its way. There are some bulb greens starting to pop up, nurseries are beginning to have summer bulbs, and we can feel the energy starting to pick up a bit. We have made it through January and we are just a bit closer to seeing those delightful Spring blooms.

There are some things we can begin doing to prepare for the Spring season ahead that February is generally a great time for. I say generally because we are living in a time of unpredictable weather and so it's important to be aware of the current weather conditions and not just do tasks based off a specific month.

Prune fruit trees and shrubs
Apply natural protectants to fruiting plants
Apply compost and mulch
Prune hydrangeas and other large flowering shrubs to stimulate new growth and shape
Add natural soil amendments / fertilizers to ensure plants have sufficient nutrients to push out new growth
Plant bare root roses and fruit trees
Start sowing seeds indoors
Begin planning out spring crops or new planting designs/additions
Check tools - make note of any repairs or replacements needed and clean/sharpen.

There may be more or less tasks depending on your specific garden and region but this list should give you a great place to start.
